What are the ideas behind reviving Poetry Swindon?

That's a good question and the answer is many and varied. At it's heart, Poetry Swindon wants to provide a friendly, welcoming space for people in and around Swindon to come together and explore poetry. Whether your interest lies in reading it, writing it, publishing it or performing it.

Initially organising monthly meetups, we hope to grow the group to a point where we're involved in more diverse poetry projects like developing an online and print presence, working on multi-media projects with Swindon based artists, and developing relationships with poets and artists outside of Swindon.

Some of these are big dreams that are further down the road, and they will change and grow and develop depending on who is involved in the group and what interests them.

At the time of writing everything is about getting the group up and running again, and getting people coming along and excited to explore poetry. If you'd like to stay up to date with events and announcements, please follow us on Facebook or join our mailing list using the button at the top of the site. If you think you might like to get involved in organising events and projects, then get in touch by emailing sophie@poetryswindon.com

Poetry Swindon is not about competing or clashing with other poetry events and groups around Swindon, so a big shout to Clive Oseman who has been running Oooh Beehive for several years now, and Andrew Brewerton of Strawberry Green Productions who has recently started organising Poetry in the Park in Old Town Gardens. Both of these events give poets the opportunity to perform their own poetry and enjoy performances by others.
